1)Who is T.B.O. clothing and all members?
TBO clothing stands for The Big October Clothing. The members are me Joshua and my friend Sekou.
The Big October Clothing started in 2011. It is inspired by the month, the designer (Me/Josh), was born. The month of October brings a lot of art and design principles that T.B.O.C incorporates into this clothing line. The Big October Clothing is also inspired by many different types of art around the world. There are many different types of patterns, colors, & designs in the world that influence us to create great designs.  T.B.O.C is not limited to just the month of October! I have a passion to design clothes that have never been designed before. Our designs are new to the fashion world. Please watch The Big October Clothing Line grow year by year as we design plenty of creative collections. 
 
 2)      How long has TBO clothing been around?
One year! Wow does time fly.

4)   If ANYONE, dead or alive, could put on a shirt from TBO clothing, who would that person be? 
 Hmmm it would be Pharrell Williams.

5)      What inspired the beginnings for TBO clothing?  
Well I was in the mall wearing shades and wondered why people looked at me. Then I thought, it has to be the shades. That phrase was used to design the first t-shirt I’ve ever designed digitally.

6)      What does it mean to you to be a SUCCESSFUL person?
A successful person is a person who sets unique goals for themselves and completes them.

7)      What are some features of this clothing line and who would want to shop TBO clothing?
We have creatively designed t-shirts. Mainly young adults want these dope exclusive items.

8)      When you aren’t working, what are your top 3 things to do?
 Top three things to do..let’s see
1. Grab some food
2. Learn new things
3. Hangout with my crew

9)      What’s your favorite meal from Waffle House?

 10)   Describe a time that you felt a roadblock in front of your goals and how you overcame it… and words of advice for anyone aspiring to meet their goals.
 I threw a promotional party for The Big October Clothing that a small amount of people came to. My goal was to reach hundreds of people that night, and that goal was demolished with others as well. I overcame this road block by finding other ways to promote The Big October Clothing.  By finding other ways it opened up new roads towards success. Word of advice, think things through before doing them.

11)   Upcoming events in Atlanta? 

June 14th is the grand opening of FreePluto.net. It’s a new online fashion boutique. They will have a release party in Atlanta at the royal peacock that The Big October Clothing will be a part of.
 
Attach clothing store in perimeter mall will be opening back up in June. Grab some new gear from The Big October Clothing at their store.

Also The Big October Clothing will be featured in USL Magazine on July 1st. Grab a copy of the magazine to see what the buzz is all about.

Who is Carmen Veal/Sani Auri and what does she do? A fashion designer and lover of ALL things fashion: accessories, makeup, clothing, shoes etc. Sani Auri is the name of my brand and company- named after my daughter (pronounced Sah- Nye Ahh-Ree). I [have been] designing clothing for women, specializing in body-con dress, rompers/catsuits & most recently my popular line of retro high waist bikinis. Next month I’ll be launching my new line of men’s ties and bowties (exclusive news for the fabulous supporters of Beautiful by Brittany).

How long has she been doing what she does? I’ve been designing professionally for 3 years but “conveniently” since I was in high school. Sani Auri officially became an LLC in 2009.
Short and Long term goals?  Short term: kick off my Bikini pop Up shop (bikinipopupshop.com) where I’ll travel the world and appear at random yet convenient locations with my bikinis, sell them and move on to the next location. Long term: open my clothing nothing with my own designs within the next 5 years.

If Carmen could design clothing for ANYONE, dead or alive, who would that person be? I absolutely adore the physical being of Marilyn Monroe. She exemplified a woman of style and elegance which is the exact way I present myself. I’m also in love with the Old Hollywood style of modeling. I can totally see her in my high waist bikinis and custom form fitting gowns modeling pin up style.

How did you learn to design/sew and what inspired you? My love for fashion originated from my love for color and patterns. I would flip through my older sister’s word up magazines in admiration of the fashion. That’s where it all began! I watched my aunt sew things around her house (curtains, throw pillows etc) eventually playing around with my grandma’s hand needles and threads. When my aunt passed, my family gave me her sewing machine and that is where the magic began (though I failed miserably at it and gave up). A few years laters I gave it a go again, playing around with a more modern machine that includes instructions– after about two weeks I had taught myself the basics of using a sewing machine. I then invested in private sewing lessons and perfected the craft.

What does it mean to you to be a POWERFUL woman?  A powerful person is someone who has an impact on the way a person thinks or feels. This person shares their own way of being and causes a positive reaction in another. This leads to a drive of inspiration and motivation for that person to become just as powerful.

Are you involved in any other important initiatives in your life?  Yes! A huge part of the woman I am today is in great thanks to my daughter Sania. She’s autistic and is one of the sweetest kids I have ever known. Her condition caused so many different levels of sacrifice and pain that lead to positivity and growth. After facing the many challenges caused by autism, I learned to control it instead of allowing it to continue controlling me. I founded Hope 4 Autism, Inc in 2010 to help bridge the gap between autism & the community, and to support the families that are challenged with the same pains that once troubled me. Today I’m at peace with the condition and my relationship with Sania is as strong as its ever been. She’s my drive to continue being the absolute best that I can be.

When you aren’t working, what’s your top 3 things to do? Explore– I recently visited Europe for weeks also tried Fire Walking. They were the most amazing experiences in my world of exploring thus far. In a few weeks I’ll be going whale watching and on a cruise. I like to get out and enjoy the many things life offers.

What cities do you feel appreciate fashion the most?  I always thought New York and LA until I went to Europe. Barcelona is a dreamers reality in the world of fashion. It was amazing! I’m sure other places I’ve yet to explore are big on fashion but so far, these three places are on list of top 3.

Describe a time that you felt a roadblock in front of your goals and how you overcame it… and words of advice for anyone aspiring to meet their goals.  I did often actually, until I discovered the real roadblocks derive from the thoughts in my head. I learned to separate my ego from my drive which allows me become one with my work. When I work, I give it my all– I become one with it. As humans, we naturally have the tendency to over think things and form its own belief on what’s what, when in actuality, being aware without random roaming thoughts eliminate the room for conflict. I don’t allow my thoughts to dictate my future. What I would recommend others do is to [do what I did], read “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle, which helps you understand how the ego impacts every area in your life.

Upcoming events and next time you will be in Atlanta. I have the launching of my tie collection and my 3 year anniversary coming up. In addition to this I will be kicking off the Bikini Pop Up Shop’s tour! I don’t have any immediate plans to visit Atlanta but hopefully the opportunity presents itself very soon.

It’s truly a fulfilling experience to finally do what I’ve always wanted to do.  If I could go back in time and do it all over again, I would’ve been a rebel and pursued the makeup industry from the jump.  (My dad wouldn’t pay for me to go to makeup school).  Oh well… you can’t go back into time… the time is NOW… and here I am, at what may be the right place for me to begin this venture.  There’s so much to learn and so much skill to craft… it’s not just about throwing makeup products on someone’s face.  It’s the cocktail of an artistic eye, a passion for beauty, an inquiring mind for techniques and new styles/trends, and a business oriented mentality.  Delivering a face that makes the client smile is just as important as getting paid to deliver the face.  The beauty of it all is getting paid to do what you love!  None of my successes have come overnight… they always take time and patience.  I’m proud of myself for getting this far in such a short time, but I also know that there is still room for growth.  I’m always going to grow.  Anyway, I’m so glad that I ventured off to create my new business and thank you all for the support, especially fem-fATL that has given me much of my experience with web content creation, branding, and social media marketing.   So stay up on all things fem-fATL cuz it still has my heart and will continue to hold it’s love for ATL. Follow me on twitter/instagram @beautifulbyb and like me on facebook.com/beautifulbybrittany to show support and to stay in touch!

I haven’t been getting mani/pedis for the last half year to basically save money. If I have time, I can do my mani/pedis at home and they look just as nice… but every now and then I just don’t wanna do all that work! I gave in recently to get a manicure with my girl back at home… and I may be late in the nail game, but I got GELISH (Gel Nail Polish) for the first time. This is the same as your regular manicure except they are using a gel polish and UV light… which Sally Hansen’s Tough as Nails has nothing on. This is super strength polish! I got a gelish french manicure (costing about 30$) and I fell in love at first sight. My nails were down to nubs when I went in. I really wanted to get some fake tips put on, but my friend told me to try the Gelish and grow my natural nails out. I’m so glad I did because now my nails have grown out and aren’t weak and brittle as a result of fake nail application. When I get fake tips put on, I keep em short anyway… just enough to look feminine, so now that my nails have grown out… I’m very happy with the look of my nails and will definitely keep up with Gelish. The best thing is that it lasts about a month if you take care of them, which is better than getting a fill in every 2 weeks. They have all kinds of colors and gels as well. I just had to share this goodness with all of you…

More information on the different types of Gel Nail polish:

Shellac is made by CND (Creative Nail Design), which is a more popular and well advertised brand. Shellac only has 40 or so colors. Shellac is gel and polish.

Gelish, which is made by Harmony, boasts thicker, longer wear and bigger bottles and less expensive at the same time. Gelish has about 80 colors or more, including solid colors and sparkles. Gelish is also a true gel polish, a mixture of gel and pigment, giving brighter colors and thicker solution.
Both are applied like a polish, are cured with UV (or LED lamps which makes curing time even quicker with Gelish) and both last longer than normal polish. Both can layer colors and make nail art easy. Neither needs the natural nail buffed before application.

Basically… You can’t go wrong with trying both and figuring out which one you love! I’m a creature of nature though and think I’m going to stick with Gelish. Every year, especially during October, women across the United States AND fem-fATL spread Breast Cancer Awareness.  Big or small, too much or none at all… as women, we have em’… BOOBS.  It’s so important to check yourself for lumps and unusual circumstances in your breasts… because this cancer can be stopped before severe problems, or death, occur.  We can’t rely on our annual gyno visit and the chance that technology and doctors will save us if we fall prey to the disease.  Prevention, as always, is the key.  The same way you can do kegels just about anywhere… you can always check your boobs out, so there’s no excuse!  Check them in the shower if you have to.  Whichever boob you are checking, raise the same arm and place your hand on your back.  With your free hand, put two fingers together and gently press on your breast around your nipple and go all the way around and work your way outwards.  You should feel for unusual lumps or pain that is caused from gentle pressing.  (Don’t have too much fun now!)  If you do experience the unusual, definitely schedule an appointment with your doctor immediately.  You may find out that everything is perfectly normal… and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with knowing!  If you find out something is wrong… then you are taking the preventative steps to saving your life.  XoXoXo

Sidenote:

Living in a such a beautiful city and never experiencing what all it has to show has got to suck! Therefore, last week when my friends from the “DMV” invaded ATL, I took it upon myself to kidnap fem-fATL‘s Vanguardista (from her new STYLISH Eastside home) and turned us into tourists for a day.

I visited the MLK center several years ago on a Black College Tour, but this visit was different for some reason. I guess since im older and am able to comprehend more enabled the tour to be more effective than when I was younger. I wanted to share our photos to encourage all my ATLiens to take the initiative to take advantage of your city, especially if its FREE!!!
