Beauty is H.E.R. Name

To Thread or not to Thread…

If you didn’t know by now, EYEBROWS can MAKE or BREAK a face…

You might think I sound crazy, but think about it… They are the epicenter of your face, they are what can provide a harsh look or a subtle look to your face, if they are arched too high you looked shocked, and if they go straight across you look pissed.  You can’t win!! Forget the makeup, if your brows aren’t on point there’s no point in putting in the extra effort to add shadow to your lids, it just brings more attention to the jungle you got growing on your face.  If your like any normal human being (okay maybe Im just speaking for myself) You probably catch yourself looking in magazines at pictures of celebs, such as Kim Kardashian and Rhianna, wondering…how the HELL are they so gorgeous.  Well it doesn’t hurt that they are already drop dead gorgeous, but can you imagine what these women would look like with Macy Gray afros over their eye-lids??  Reggie Bush wouldn’t be known for his last name, he’d be known for dating the girl with the Bush on her face…and Rhianna would be singing “its so hard” to sell some records.

Forget the commodity of Indian hair weave, do you know what people would do to have those brows?!?!

Try to guess who this now "hottie"major celeb is with the UNI-BROW...*heres a hint* she's in Transformers and has been called the "new Angelina Jolie"

So here’s my Brow Confession:

I’ve been getting my brows threaded since last December, and I notice a major change.  Im not gonna dig into the archives, embarrass myself, and possibly lose all of my friends by showing you the brows that I grew up with.  Im just gonna give you a visual, imagine Bert from Sesame street, now add a caterpillar uni-brow.  YEP (now delete that picture from your memory).  So I literally would try everything possible to tame these, or what was in my case wayyy back then, THIS brow.  Waxing sucked because I would end up with the “OMG Im SO SURPRISED” look from pencil thin brows, and creams such as Nair was a NO NO because you risk breaking out from a rash, eww.  I was introduced to an Indian technique called threading, which is where they actually use a thick piece of thread to clean your brows.  I never thought the day would come where I got compliments all the time on my beautiful brows (yeah bitches that used to tease me, i’ll brag about them now), I got put onto threading and I’ve been in love ever since.

Yeahhh Sucka's! No more Al B Sure uni-brow!!! Thats so circa '95

The joys of eyebrow threading, no pencil thin brows!!

I'll be the 1st to admit, I love my brows!

Now im not gonna lie, threading hurts!  It feels like little plucking, similar to tweezing, but with a thick cotton thread (sounds as weird as it looks).  Its not as quick as waxing, where its there 1 min and gone the next.  With threading you need to prepare to sit in the chair for about 8 mins, but please believe the pain is worth it!  The results last longer than waxing, I now go every 2 weeks, as opposed to basically once a week when I was a waxer.   And you seriously get used to the pain after your first 3 visits.  As for the nasty stubble that waxing leaves behind…you don’t have to worry about that with threading.  The hair grows back long enough so that you can completely pluck it out with a tweezer…no tiny man-like stubble!

The thread does the job

For my bi-weekly threading trips, I go to i-Too in East Atlanta Village…they seriously know me on a 1st name basis there now.  It only costs $7 to get your brows threaded, but if you make an appt in advance they give you a $2 discount…$5 threading, FOR THE WIN!!!  Also, whats really important is having the SAME person do your brows, because they get to know you, your brows, and how you like to have them maintained.  You can’t walk in there having Jaya Patel doing your brows, then Dana “Pookie” Jenkins doing them the next time your there.  So whenever I go, I request Rani to do my brows, she never does my brows wrong!!!

Next time your tempted to let the wax touch your brows, go ahead and book your appointment i-Too Threading Salon –> 404.653.8990.

  1. omg… I totally need to go now! I’ve been wanting to try threading. I’ve always done mine myself tho. But you can’t beat $5 every 2 weeks!

  3. Thanks so much for posting such a great blog piece! This is a great – real – story that so many people can relate to.
I’ve been to i-Too and Hair Images and The Arches Threading Lounge, etc and they’re all really great places. However, I’ve found that they are usually really crowded, there’s a long wait and sometimes when they finally start to thread my brows, it feels really rushed.
I’ve started my own threading business and I’d love to invite you to come check out my services, give me a try or even spead the word about a new threader in town! Take a look at my site: http://www.attention2detailz.com and make an appointment at your convenience. I’m located in downtown Atlanta and I look forward to meeting you!
    Thanks
    Miranda :)

  5. Thanks Miranda!! Your right, they are crowded most of the time. That’s awesome that you started your own threading business! Threading is becoming more and more popular, and soon people will get tired of the waxing. I will definitely have to come check your business out, and I’ll be spreading the word as well!
