SoFA KiNg Ready For Lipstick & Shades

Sofa King

Warning, warning! All the ladies will be at Halo this Friday for the fem-fATL hosted Lipstick & Shades party. Yes we are having a ladies night! But fellas leave your girl at home, cuz Halo is gonna be JUmPin JumPin with the sounds of DJ SOFA KING. What a name! Sofa King is a fun Atlanta DJ who knows how to spin the shit we want to hear and we are excited to have him playin at our party this Friday. Sofa King answered a few questions we had, so check it out!  Also we are in the process of putting together a music request list so please let us know what you want to hear and we can negotiate!

1. How long have you been DJing  and how did you get your start?

I wasnt really into it when first dabbled in the world DJing around 03-04. Just doing a few remixes and playing a few tunes sparingly with friends who had regular gigs in the ATL breakbeat scene. It wasn’t until around 07-08 when I finally decided to pursue DJing seriously and be more than just a niche ‘breakbeat dj.’

2. What’s the inspiration for your DJ name and how would you describe your sound?

Well Dj lazyboy was already taken and DJ couch potato just didn’t sound too catchy. The name was just a joke at first (ATHF reference), but it stuck.  I like to describe my sound as random fuckery. Every now and then I like to throw in a random WTF type of track for kicks and giggles.

3. What is it like to be a DJ in the Atlanta scene? What do you think of the ATL nightlife? What makes it good or bad?

Oh it’s definitely FUN, so much random stuff happens, I wish I had my own reality TV show. I feel ATL nightlife is so diverse, but yet so divided. I guess that’s what makes my job a bit more challenging; trying to find the right balance to please everyone.

4. What type of music can we expect you to be spinning at this Friday’s Fem-fATL party?

Definitely some Spice Girls, Soul Decision & maybe some Wille Hutch. Ok I’m just kidding I usually start the night off playing oldies, indie, & b side type tracks till I can get a feel for the crowd and go from there, whether its HipHop/ Pop/ Dance/ or Remixes.

5. Why should anyone come to our upcoming party?

Why not! great venue, great hosts, great people, great drinks & its FREE w/ RSVP!!!! (before midnight)
