I love coffee, but not as much as a sense of community. At Tilt Room Coffee Shop in Castleberry Hill, I and the rest of fem-fATL are regulars. We even host a weekly film series there on Friday nights. We will be starting a new Hitchcock series [Hitchcock - Master of Suspense] this Friday (October 16th).
A Real Regular
Basically I love this spot and I love the people that work there. All the guys are really dope and interesting and you get the time to actually talk and get to know them. That type of relationship is missing at other spots I like to frequent (cough * cough) because they are just too busy. Tilt on the other hand is way chill in its customer service and environment. Tucked away inside Castleberry Hill’s artsy loft district, it has a slower traffic mostly of neighborhood locals; which makes it nice for getting work done or a cute date where you want to actually hear the person sitting across from you. A fem-fATL tradition is to hang out at Tilt and work on posts until it closes and then walk up to Wasabi (Sushi) for a late dinner. I recommend this for a date; you can even throw in one of the many art exhibits in Castleberry to have something extra to do. If it is a Friday night you could grab a coffee and watch a fem-fATL film series screening which usually starts around 8PM (just saying!) However you want to do Tilt, it’s a place you can be a real regular.
Art
Like most neighborhood coffee shops, Tilt supports local artists with rotating art displays, but one exhibit is a constant. This is one of my favorite things at Tilt – a series of scrap metal sculptures by artist Grant Spafford. You can learn more about his craft at his website: http://greasemonkeymetalworks.com. Spafford takes scrap metal to create skeletal and robotic looking animals and figures. My favorites are the dog and the owl.
Yummy Delights
Finally when it comes to a coffee shop, you have to say something about the coffee and the other treats. I’m not a coffee connoisseur, but I think it’s great. Independent coffee shops like Tilt hardly get the coffee part wrong. What Tilt does above and beyond is in their menu of sandwiches and oh my the ice cream. I had the most amazing banana split (see below). The secret ingredient is this green kiwi lime sauce. I have seriously never had a more amazing banana split… and I love those things!
We frequent Tilt so much we say we have office hours and it’s for good reason. Stop by some time to grab a coffee with us!
