FUTURESHOCK: Jeremy & Floyd
On a very lonely, boring, rainy Saturday night *sigh*, Furturista and I decided to venture out to MJQ. We wanted to see what the rest of ATL was doin at night, and hoping to find some entertainment to take us out of our boring funks. We went in, and immediately sat in the back (usually we go up to the front and dance), but on this night we felt like people watching. We saw our buddy Ashton at the bar, he was with two young guys….whom I recognized but couldn’t put my damn pointer finger on it. He brought them over and introduced them to us, their names were Jeremy and Floyd….but they are better known as FUTURESHOCK. Ah!!! Then it hit me, I saw them perform at the Star Bar late one night. I remember listening to them perform, they instantly reminded me of a modern Outkast. Not just because it is a group with 2 guys, it was their creative musical style. Their use of guitar, drums, and electro beats is very different, its a modern twist on a funky soul psychedelic feel, with a punk rock vibe infused….something that ATL is not used to, but should definitely hear more of. After listening to them, I knew that they definitely needed to be featured on fem-fATL. I was given a copy of their cd, ALL of the songs are hot…”Boulevard” (besides Party Line & Dancing Machine) happens to be my 1 of my new favs. The vibe of it reminds me of a Prince song, and it talks about a girl who wants to escape to the Boulevard (hmmm kinda sounds like me, lol).

So I got the chance to interview Jeremy (Floyd is his blood brother, which makes this dynamic duo even more interesting!) for fem-fATL to find out more about the creative energy behind FUTURESHOCK, their vision, background, and influences on music. They are 2 very down to earth guys, with a love and passion for good electric music. Im a BIG fan, and after reading this interview you will be too.
Okay, so everybody has pretty much been wondering…where did the name Futureshock come from? Who came up with it?
Well we wanted to describe ourselves in one word. We saw our musical direction as the future and we wanted to blow people away with our sound and out came “Futureshock”
So its pretty interesting that you both are blood brothers, and you come from a pretty talented family, I read on your bio that your mom was a soul/funk singer in the late 70’s…DOPE! How did FUTURESHOCK come about? When did you both decide that you wanted to be musicians, and that music was the future for you?
Futureshock came about in 1986 when my big brother Boy Floyd met me Jeremy Daniels for the first time. As soon as the doctor smacked my ass I was as singing fool…lol
What musicians and artists influence futureshock?
Aw man…..The Gap Band, Rick James, Prince, Michael Jackson, Ganstar, Run DMC, Talking Heads, The Clash, Jimmy Hendrix, P-Funk…these are my top 10
So ya’ll are originally from Charlotte NC. Why did you decide to pack up that UHAUL van and pick ATL as the home of Futureshock?
Well I was on the run from the cops in 3 states so ATL seemed cool….LMAO…naw its not that far from home so I can still see my mom and the music scene here is great!
Your sound is known as Punk Funk, break that down for us…what exactly is Punk Funk?
A fan pretty much gave us that name while we were at a gig. But we really don’t care what people think of us, we do what we do because we want to; that’s the punk side of it all. And we are the funkiest dudes you wanna meet
Party Line & Dancing Machine are 2 of my FAV FUTURESHOCK songs of the 3-D Mixtape, what was the idea behind the mixtape? What atliens is this mixtape geared towards?
Well people are always dumbing down to fit in and lots of people judge you off of what they see or heard so we wanted to make a statement. Its always more depth to things than what meets the eye
