So if you were out in Castleberry on Oct 2nd, you were probably wondering why there were performers running around in underwear, and why the windows of art galleries and buildings were illuminated with light and ridiculous energy.  It was LE FLASH!  I was unaware of LE FLASH, so when I saw the ads posted all over my neighboorhood of Castleberry prior to the event, I knew I had to check it out.

LE FLASH began in 2008, and recently took place on Oct 2nd for its 2nd year.  It is a night of performances, art, live installations, iron pours, poetry readings, video projections…basically everything that you can imagine.  The event lasted from dusk till dawn and featured tons of projects and perfomances in vacant spaces, installations being reflected against the huge brick walls of the castleberry buildings, warehoues, and rooftops.

The concept of LE FLASH was created by curators Cathy Byrd and Stuart Keeler, it was created to broaden and deepen the signifigance of contemporary art in Atlanta: “Using light as the theme, LE FLASH centers on interactive sound and light installations, projected imagery and illuminated performance. The five-hour event shares a transitory aesthetic with cities around the world that take a night out for art once a year. Paris and Toronto, Tokyo and Berlin are among cultural destinations that light up for Nuit Blanche. Santa Monica’s Glow transforms the pier, the beach and Palisades Park for art from dusk to dawn.Leflash-atlanta.com

Unfortunately I got off of work LATE that night, so I missed most of the festivities, but I was lucky enough to catch one performance…and it actually took place in the bottom of my building (very convenient).  Here is a clip of the performance that I caught, these dancers were amazing, they danced as if they were caught in a trance.  The performance ended with them dancing in their underwear fountain (which I didn’t catch on camera).

Special thanks to Stevenson_jeanpierre for allowing us to showcase his pics from LE FLASH.  Check out more of his pics at his flickr page.
