Hip for Spring

Hoorah,  it’s officially spring! Officially time to lose the flat boots and spandex look – there should be a rule about wearing spandex after a certain date (like white after labor day)! It’s time to show off those legs and pull out those shades. It’s spring at last and the Atlanta weather is finally beginning to cooperate. The sun’s comin’ out, flowers starting to bloom, and you should be just as colorful too!

The look I’m cravin’ is Diane von Fürstenberg’s spring 2009 collection. It is a 60s and 70s retro style with a bright palette, floral prints, and flowy fabrics. Nothing celebrates spring more than the hippie look!

You can easily achieve this look with two easy steps: 1) a brightly colored ensemble and 2) a hippie headband. To make an outfit instantly feel retro cool – it’s all about the hippie headband!

Celebrities like Mary-kate Olsen and Nicole Richie have been rockin’ this look for a while! DVF’s headbands are florally fantastic and an easy DIY (do it yourself)! I made my own using colorful ribbons and paper flowers from Michaels Craft Store.

It's all about the hippie headband.

To make a simple headband, just take ribbon and braid, knot, and twist as you like! For my flowers, I looped spare ribbon through faux flower petals and tied them to my base headband.
