This very well may be my most random ill-spent post to date. Anyways I am looking forward to the next month and fabulous summer. As I was thinking of May, I thought of the the saying ‘April Showers Bring May Flowers’ and the randomness continued because I thought, “hrmmm what is Georgia’s state flower?” Now, I’m not an Atlanta native, like most people so I figure alot of people also missed out on Georgia history. The only thing I knew was, ‘Way down yonder on the chattahoochee – It gets hotter than a hoochie coochie.” (LOL – If you didn’t laugh!)
So of course I Googled it and found out Georgia’s state flower (drumroll) is the Cherokee Rose. When I googled the flower, I was confused because I never see this flower, but maybe I’ve been overlooking it. I’m actually a Texas native and miss the beautiful, inescapable Blue Bonnet (I did get my Texas History – Remember the Alamo!!!! Go SPuRS Go!) In any case, I thought I’d make a collage of the Cherokee Rose for you so you can become well acquainted with it- and well here is what happened:

Legend
By the way the Cherokee Rose has a legend like most things:
When the Trail of Tears started in 1838, the mothers of the Cherokee were grieving and crying so much, they were unable to help their children survive the journey. The elders prayed for a sign that would lift the mother’s spirits to give them strength. The next day a beautiful rose began to grow where each of the mother’s tears fell. The rose is white for their tears; a gold center represents the gold taken from Cherokee lands, and seven leaves on each stem for the seven Cherokee clans.

Being that I was born here, (GA, one of the few, lol) i really enjoyed reading that. I actually learned that in 8th grade…Such a beautiful yet grim story for a state flower…You know the slaves when thru some bull, why can’t the flower be a pic of cotton, or a Pic of Eli Whitney throwing a thumbs up sign in front of a cotton gin…oops, hope nobody takes offense, it was meant to be a joke…hee-hee.
