A Whole New Meaning to TOPLESS TUESDAYS

Is your bra your breast friend?

Is your bra your breast friend?

So on August 23rd… this Sunday… women in various cities including Miami, Maui, New York City, Venice Beach, Chicago, and Portland, to name a few, will be protesting sans brassiere for women’s rights to go TOPLESS.  Women who are activists for this movement believe that they should have the same equality as men when it comes to the exposed nipple.  Check out http://www.gotopless.org/ for more information on this topic.  What do YOU think?  Anybody in the ATL wanna protest this Sunday at Centennial Park? haha  If so, go blow your mind away ’cause I can assure you none of the fem-fATLs will be there… we like our vickie secrets.

Here’s what I think…  (not that you give a fuck, but I don’t give a fuck if you don’t give a fuck so I am going to go ahead and fucking tell you… lol) I think we have socially constructed a country that is more caught up on nudity than other societies in different countries.  When I lived in Germany, I remember shopping for some shoes and saw this lady whip her double sized titties out in the middle of the motherfuckin store to breast feed her daughter.  And no lie, her daughter was not a newborn… she was running around and shit! lmao.  She had to be at least 3 or 4.  Believe it or not, it happened.  Something like that in Germany is probably “acceptable”… but how would YOU react if you were at Footlocker and you saw this?  You’d be like, “WTF?!?”  haha Many women in America get shit for doing one of the most natural and mammal like activities- breastfeeding… in public.  Why?  Because their TIT is exposed?  You saw titties all up in your face when you were born!!!  Why are you acting like you’ve never seen some breasts now???  haha I mean it’s one thing to see them and be cool with them, but it’s another for people to be appalled and want to sue a muhfucka. lol

We have a huge industry built on S.E.X. and it sells… so its almost as if we uphold this money making industry, let alone the fashion industry, because public nudity is unlawful.  Also, people feel that we can’t backtrack from the achievement that clothing (and shoes) has brought us as a people.  We have protection from the climate, the geography… and we have fashion!  Removing the clothing for others to see has been left for sexual activities behind closed doors.  So, it just makes sense that when clothing is removed in public, or in the American public, this is seen as a sexualized action and that’s “wrong” because we are civilized, dammit!  lol

Honestly, I don’t give a shit for TOPLESS rights in public.  I know I personally wouldn’t take advantage of that equality.  Some things are better left to the imagination… and I’m not comfortable with being nude in public.  I also think its cool and all for women to be able to come so far in their equality with men, but what is this really about?  Is this about preventing a bad tan line from your bikini?  I’m more concerned about women’s rights to protection from domestic violence, sexual assault, and rape.   (<— check my old post on Domestic Violence. )  Either way, I’m not going to be appalled if I do see a bare chested female.  To each his own.  How do you feel? And keep in mind, you aren’t going to just see porn star boobs.  You will be seeing all varieti-tties.  lol

  1. lol. best part of going abroad is sitting in a coffee shop, hearing people laugh, and then *plop*, the mammaries join the conversation and the convo continues as normal with the extra guest(s).

America, why art thou so shrewd? It’s the stigmas that eff everything up – from AIDS, to gays/lesbians, to ADDHD, to stereotypes based on color of skin, to socioeconomic status (or lack there of) – people can’t just be seen as human?

i hope that’s not too much to ask for, cause then maybe you’d open your eyes to taking care of your women like they’re supposed to be (NOT as trophies, punching bags or sex toys) and intervening to truly give aide where it’s due, e.g. health disparities, growing rift between the classes (they exist).

  2. I applaud the women protesting. They are fighting for equal rights and more greatly for new conceptions about the body. To me the important thing about the campaign is bringing to attention the way we think about sex and our bodies. This is a tough battle. First because we aren’t use to seeing boobs out and about, there is this stigma to the image. My mind associates the image with ‘pornographic’ not ‘protest’ and despite their intentions, the women seem reduced to sexual objects, which does not help their movement (but it does bring to attention that we think this way). All I see are the boobs, not the signs. But if we saw boobies more, maybe we would not make those associations or reduce the female body into sexual objects. It doesn’t seem like a topless protest is really the best way to go about making a difference on this issue, but I’m not sure what the best approach would be.

Boobs are a feminine thing and I LOVE MY BOOBIES (voice of the Water Boy), but like justB I wouldn’t capitalize on this equality… sorry. lol

  5. I thought I would post that video on CNN as a reflection. I think it was a harmless protest. What erks me (like steve erkle) is the news reporter man. It’s like he’s holding back a laugh and he is setting the tone of the report as a joke. He also comes off like he touches little girls.

    anyway. outtie.
