A Quirky Girl’s Guide To Life

Seriously, what is it about Anna Karina and all those Sixties french actresses that makes you just want to be them? Not only are they gorgeous and charming, but they have flair, attitude, an eccentric personality, and a quirky perspective on life. It’s the quirks that make them so alluring and attractive. You have to wonder, what’s life like in their shoes?

In the grand scheme of things, everyone has their differences and everyone is unique, but still some stand above the rest because of their self defined approach to life and ability to express themselves.

Every modern girl is searching on how to fulfill the super woman role. How do I have a career, be a mom, be sexy, be smart, and be awesome all around? With all these goals, many women forget: how do I be myself? How can I accentuate the quirky details that when it comes down to it, define ME?

A quirky girl’s life is all about self understanding, expression, experimentation, and esteem. It is about letting go of inhibitions and living life the way it ought to be- being you in all your glorious goof ways.

Following is a list of activities to get you started on a journey of quirkiness:

1. Send postcards to strangers. Create a love story that ends up in the the wrong persons mailbox, never to be discovered by the intended recipient!

2. Watch classic movies and foreign films. Take style tips from the great actresses and copy their attitude. Be dramatic!

3. Read self-help books. Offer advice on topics you clearly have no expertise in.

4. Create an alias for yourself and live it up. Mine is Futurista. Choose something ridiculous and funny to say. Tell people in a straight face that you prefer to be called by your alias. Make them think you are crazy.

5. Leave thank you notes all the time. Be appreciative and attentive to the small things. Share your love with the world Ms. Goddess.

6. Take up an artistic hobby if you don’t have one already. Always be looking for new outlets of expression. Never tie yourself to one medium. Never be complacent. Try performance art and gain some humility.

7. Write poetry and read it out loud. If you are a terrible writer, write shitty poetry and read it out loud!

8. Keep a diary. Be consistent about it and don’t share it with anyone. We share so many things online. Keep this one for you.

9. Do a 365 in photographs. 365 days of self portraits. Make each photograph a unique photograph that says something about who you are.

10. Found Art. Make found art. This is in line with sending a post card to a stranger. Make something beautiful, write a message on it, and leave it somewhere for someone to find. Leave traces of yourself for strangers to find.

11. Read your astrology and buy into it. If you don’t like the traditional zodiac look up other types of astrology. If you don’t think you match your sign at all, look at others and pick one that fits you. For the rest of your life be adamant about being that sign when people ask!

12. Start a weird collection. For example make a box and fill it with all your fortune cookie fortunes.

13. Write short stories. Make a collection and create a book. Have kids create the illustrations.

14. Play embarrassing music in your house and dance in front of the mirror. Come up with a dance routine.

15. Write letters to yourself, seal in an envelope, and choose a random date in the future to open. Write the date on the envelope and lock it up somewhere safe.

16. Pick a cuisine and try to become a master chef of that cuisine. After mastering, move onto another. Have small dinner parties to show off your mad skills.

17. Be a regular somewhere. Pick a spot like your local coffee shop and make it a habit to visit regularly. Get to know the workers on a first name basis and try everything on the menu.

18. Buy yourself flowers. Find cool vases from the thrift store and arrange your own bouquets to decorate your place with.

19. Kidnap your friends and go on a random day trip to a cool spot at least 2 hours a way. Explore cool small towns and the great outdoors.

20. Learn a few jokes to keep up your sleeves. Whenever there’s an awkward moment pull the jokes out to entertain.
